Chaos in Guildford as traffic lights stop working resulting in 'several' crashes

Drivers in Guildford faced traffic chaos on Tuesday (June 6) due to faulty traffic lights at the busy junction between Woking Road and the A25 for Ladymead and Parkway. "Several accidents" were reported as a result of the failure and Surrey Police has confirmed "minor injuries" were sustained in one collision.

Travel service Inrix reported a number of accidents had occurred at the junction close to the A3 and said the traffic light failure had led to disruption in both directions. The service said: "Delays due to accident and traffic light failure on A320 Woking Road in both directions at the A25 Ladymead / Parkway crossroads.

"Engineers are still working on the lights, but there have been several accidents." It later warned "approach with care" and added: "The traffic lights have been fixed, but Police are still awaiting recovery after a few accidents."

Surrey Police confirmed it had been made aware of the traffic light failure. A spokesperson said: "We have had reports of collisions, including one with minor injuries." They continued that engineers are believed to have been at the site since 9.30am.

Traffic maps from the AA showed delays along the A25 and on Woking Road and Stoke Road. Drivers on the A3 slip roads also appeared to have been impacted.
